My husband, Mark, doesn’t sing in church. Sometimes he hums. Sometimes he mumbles a few words in between humming, but that’s about it. Therefore, when we arrive, I always silently ask God to let me do the singing for both of us.
But recently I got so choked up at church that I couldn’t sing when the time came. So, I just stood there, trying to swallow the lump in my throat and blink back the tears pooling in my eyes. I felt Mark looking at me, but I kept my head down. And then, suddenly . . . Mark opened his mouth and began to sing—REALLY sing. For both of us. I smiled a secret smile through my tears.
This is our marriage: When one can’t, the other one does whatever is necessary—usually without discussion or comment.
I am so grateful to Mark and for him. Happy birthday to my beloved husband who sings for me! Tonight, I’ll sing for you: Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you . . .
PS. This totally counts as a card!
